These were really fun to make and even though I got the frames several years ago, I think I’m going to see if @dollartree has any left so I can make more.

When I first started my photography business, there were so many professionals and teachers who emphasized the need to niche down, but as a bright eyed and rebellious teenager, that sounded more like a challenge than good advice.

After starting my career with some big projects: shooting my first wedding at 15, doing the photography for multiple real estate firms and dental offices, and getting paid for spreads in magazines, including Inked Magazine, I’ve definitely niched down these last few years.

Overcoming obstacles isn’t just about reaching the other side — it’s about discovering a version of yourself you never knew existed.
✨
I recently decided to open up a space in my apartment for studio sessions, but what I didn’t tell you was I faced several obstacles + moments of self-doubt to get there.
🫢
I had a VISION, I did my research, I debated my choices, I made my purchases + I was feeling so confident and excited… until the morning of this photoshoot.
🥲
Nothing felt like it was falling into place. The room had overly tinted windows and a very heavy table that was plugged in to the floor taking up so much space, my background was smaller than I thought it would be, and I was so nervous for my clients to arrive!
😖
But when they showed up, they admired the set up, they were eager to get started, + they trusted me fully to create sentimental memories!
🥹
And that is exactly what we did, filling the hour with music, hugs, compliments + jokes. Let this serve as a reminder: it’s not about where you are, but rather who you are with because happiness is HOMEMADE.

One of my favorite things about living in California is the vast amount of landscape options to use as a backdrop for a portrait session.

From the coast, to the mountains, the valleys, the desert, the city, the parks, and everything contained within those places - anywhere important to you + your story can be used to document beautiful memories.
🚕
If you were to ask my favorite, I would probably give you a different answer on different days because the truth is, I love them all for their own uniqueness!
✨
Locations, like people, have experiences + energies linked only to them and I think that’s lovely to think about. We really all are truly so special and I feel exceptionally lucky to experience all these energies.

Merry Christmas from my fur babies + me! I said I wasn’t gonna post them but I got a handful that aren’t terrible and I love them simply for existing.

Swipe to the end to see Piper’s RBF that she definitely did not get from me. Zoom ripped through so much paper way too quickly and was caught stealing treats on set during Piper’s turn.

A very simple one year birthday photoshoot at one of my favorite locations in Palos Verdes.
🌊
This location is beautiful, relatively private, and offers a large variety of backdrops in a small space BUT it is a steep hike down which means a steep hike back up.
🥾
When Karen + her husband told me she was down for a hike, I was so excited because this was a location I had on my own personal photographer wishlist for at least a year.
📷
However, I was not expecting her to bring her mother along, too! She hiked with us + she kept up just fine, taking breaks along the way to savor the view a few more times.

Never stop exploring, always take the scenic route, + make all the stops on the way to your final destination.

It is with a very heavy heart that I am sharing the passing of my beloved grandmother. This past year and a half of watching her battle lung cancer has, without a doubt, been the toughest and most emotional year for myself + our family.

This woman was the most selfless, kindest, strongest, funniest, smartest, adventurous soul to ever walk this earth. She chose her family everyday, through the easy times and the difficult times with grace, with ease, with nothing but love in her heart.
There is so much I could share about this rockstar of a woman, she lived a wonderful, cultured, and long life, yet, I will always feel she was taken from us too soon.

She was a fighter until her last breath, a true stubborn Taurus. She is already missed immensely, we all love her endlessly and will continue to live FOR her because who knows where or who I would be without this savior who blessed me with a home, instilled a strong work ethic, believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, and provided everything I could have ever needed and wanted.

Nothing can prepare a heart for the loss of their maternal figure, no other pain compares to the mourning of my best friend. All I hope, is that she’s watching and I’m making her proud, showing her all the hard work was worth it and she did the absolute best she could with everything she put her heart into.

We love you so much grandma, our family, our friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you. You are the best thing that ever happened to my mother, my sister and I.
I feel you here with me, I’ve seen you in the butterflies, rainbows, and sun-flares. Thank you for stopping by, thank you for choosing us, thank you for everything.

Rest in peace, grandma. I am so grateful you are not in pain anymore. Say hi to all the furbabies and I know you don’t believe your soul is still here but it is, your energy is far too great to disappear but you don’t have to be strong anymore. It’s our turn to be strong for you.

April 24, 1942-October 19, 2024🕊️

It is with a very heavy heart that I am sharing the passing of my beloved grandmother. This past year and a half of watching her battle lung cancer has, without a doubt, been the toughest and most emotional year for myself + our family.

This woman was the most selfless, kindest, strongest, funniest, smartest, adventurous soul to ever walk this earth. She chose her family everyday, through the easy times and the difficult times with grace, with ease, with nothing but love in her heart.
There is so much I could share about this rockstar of a woman, she lived a wonderful, cultured, and long life, yet, I will always feel she was taken from us too soon.

She was a fighter until her last breath, a true stubborn Taurus. She is already missed immensely, we all love her endlessly and will continue to live FOR her because who knows where or who I would be without this savior who blessed me with a home, instilled a strong work ethic, believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, and provided everything I could have ever needed and wanted.

Nothing can prepare a heart for the loss of their maternal figure, no other pain compares to the mourning of my best friend. All I hope, is that she’s watching and I’m making her proud, showing her all the hard work was worth it and she did the absolute best she could with everything she put her heart into.

We love you so much grandma, our family, our friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting you. You are the best thing that ever happened to my mother, my sister and I.
I feel you here with me, I’ve seen you in the butterflies, rainbows, and sun-flares. Thank you for stopping by, thank you for choosing us, thank you for everything.

Rest in peace, grandma. I am so grateful you are not in pain anymore. Say hi to all the furbabies and I know you don’t believe your soul is still here but it is, your energy is far too great to disappear but you don’t have to be strong anymore. It’s our turn to be strong for you.

People often don’t believe me when I tell them most of my work happens before and after our photoshoot.

As a photographer, I wear many hats within this business I’m so lucky to call mine and a lot of that work feels invisible because it usually leads to the final results of delivering + showcasing beautiful, documented memories.

Behind the pretty pictures I’m often sitting at my desk in sweatpants, with a giant glass of cold water, and listening to music while I:

• respond to client emails
• edit
• website creation/maintenance
• manage scheduling
• social media + other marketing
• accounting + quarterly taxes
• research (locations, permits, gear, weather, outfit inspiration, SEO, etc.)
• clean/organize gear/prep for shoots
• client phone calls
and so many other things!

On top of that, outside of my office I scout locations, shop for props, sit in traffic, pick up flowers, go to the post office, etc.

Running a business is a lot of work and a photographers “hourly fee” is not just for the hour of work you see us taking photos because it didn’t start nor did it end with the photoshoot. Photographer charge what they do in order to run their business and being out of budget to some does not mean we are overcharging for the experience and service we provide.

We had so much fun celebrating baby boy’s arrival in this gem of a field that I actually found on Google Maps because I didn’t have a day to do any in-person scouting.
🫣
For those of you that really know me, know I have absolutely no sense of direction whatsoever; tell me to go right + I will confidently go left.
🤣
But the sun setting in the west is always my guide for outdoor sessions, so I trusted the glow of a setting sun, trusted the rain to make this field bloom, trusted my gut this was our spot, even though I didn’t see this field in person prior to the day of our shoot.

Little miss beautiful Mila has turned ONE + it is unreal how quickly this year has flown by.

It has been by far my busiest year ever as a photographer! I’ve met some pretty incredible people, I’ve captured many heartwarming milestones, I’ve redesigned my website, I’ve been blessed by getting to travel all over California for photoshoots, I’ve learned so much about photography, editing, and business.

Seriously, it’s truly unbelievable I’ve created this dream life for myself: to be able to create, connect, learn, explore, feel freely, fuel my soul, + make money to support myself while doing it.

This is gonna sound kind of sad, but seeing a future for myself has always been really hard…

Most of my life, I’ve honestly just been trying to survive… to survive that moment, that day, that week, that month, that year + a lot of the time things just felt extremely dark.

It didn’t feel like it mattered what the steps were, as long as I walked them. Living in that blur makes it difficult to WANT good things for yourself, it makes your dreams feel like just… dreams + you are unworthy of ever obtaining them.

I am so beyond blessed that I have had the influence, encouragement, + difficult conversations to be where I am today. For every person who has stepped in front of my lens, trusted me with their story/truth, ever told me to never give up, that I AM worthy, + the only limit is my imagination: THANK YOU!

Little Rachel still lives inside of me + she is so incredibly grateful for each and everyone of you.

It’s so amazing what a sense of community + support can do for us. It’s ok to ask for help and lean on people until you’re strong enough to support yourself.
